There is a world of fine art, one that the Protestant Church has pretty much ignored. 500 years ago, the best art was made by the Church. The best paintings, the best music, all of it was for the glory of God. In today’s world, art is making a comeback in the Church as congregations see the power of art representing an otherwise invisible God.
As an artist, I want to see fellow Christian artists take their place as advancers of the Gospel. My prayer is to engage Christian artists in a variety of skill-sets, at various levels of ministry.
As a Christian, my goal is for all my life and art to be influenced by faith. The message within my art seeks to be, “repent, the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” That message can influence and transform this decaying world.
I am seeking fellow artists eager to embark on a journey to explore how exactly we can make this happen. Through collaboration, creative practice and critique, we will hone our creative skills. The ambition is to make our art accessible through to the local Church, through showcases, displays, and performances.
Here’s a bit of a breakdown:
Who: Artistic Christians; painters, sculptors, filmmakers, actors, writers, etc., in various stages of Christian faith.
What: Move Christian artists from, “creating in the closet” to creating, “art that speaks the Gospel.” Do this by group discussion, critique, collaboration, and encouragement.
Where: While anyone anywhere can join in, our location is in Charlotte, NC.
Why: We are created beings. As imitators of our Saviour, we also must imitate our Father the Creator.
How: Group meetings, Creative Practice Times, and local community showcase.
