For our six-month anniversary, my husband took me to Kings Mountain State Park. While we were there, we hiked the Kings Mountain Battlefield Trail, next door in the National Park. In October, 1780, patriot forces overwhelmed Loyalist troops commanded by Col. Ferguson. This battle turned the tide of the American Revolution in the South. From here, the British first tasted the defeat they would see at Yorktown, VA. Col. Ferguson died at Kings Mountain. His family crest is carved into this monument to him on the Battlefield Trail.
